Lallemand Ethanol Technology And Mascoma Announce Transferm®

MILWAUKEE, WI and LEBANON, NH — June 5, 2012 – Lallemand Biofuels & Distilled Spirits, a
global provider of fermentation ingredients to the fuel ethanol industry, and Mascoma
Corporation, a renewable fuels company, today announced that the Mascoma Grain Technology,
or MGT™, yeast product will be marketed under the commercial name TransFerm™for use by the fuel ethanol industry.

TransFerm™, which is the first commercial application of Mascoma’s proprietary consolidated
bioprocessing (CBP) technology platform, is a bioengineered drop-in substitute for conventional
fermenting yeast that lowers costs for corn ethanol producers by alleviating the need to purchase
a significant amount of the expensive enzymes currently used in corn ethanol production.
TransFerm™, which is currently commercially available, is manufactured and distributed by
Lallemand and jointly marketed and sold by Mascoma and Lallemand through an exclusive
partnership. TransFerm™has been used in the production of over an estimated 50 million
gallons of ethanol in both commercial use and commercial-scale trials by nine corn ethanol
producers.

“The ability of TransFerm™to enhance ethanol production, combined with the complementary
capabilities of our two companies, positions us for a successful commercial launch of this
product,” stated Bill Nankervis, President of Lallemand’s Specialty Division.

and transform enzyme delivery in first generation ethanol,” stated Bill Brady, President and CEO of
Mascoma. “The commercial agreements we have in place with ethanol producers, as well as the
commercial-scale trials already underway provide us with a strong foundation from which to
grow.”

Workshop in Minneapolis, MN. In addition, representatives from both companies will be
